Susana Carvalho and Kai Bernau founded Atelier Carvalho Bernau in The Hague in 2005. The atelier concentrates on reading experiences. To that end, Susana and Kai produce typefaces (such as Neutral), book and editorial design, interactive and web projects, as well as magazines (such as Works That Work). Susana taught graphic design at the Royal Academy in The Hague 2008–2021, and Kai is teaching at the master programme in type design at Écal, Lausanne.
