Hector Mangas Afonso is a young creative and researcher from Tenerife, Spain, with a background in neuropsychology. During his bachelor in Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of Manchester, his focus was on perception and cognition. This interest evolved into his thesis, supervised by Dr Bo Yao and titled “Typography and Perceived Personality: Can Your Personality Predict Your Font Preference?”. After completing his undergrad, he continued on to Utrecht University to attend a masters program in Applied Cognitive Psychology. It was during this time that Hector got in touch with Typotheque and started collaborating with them as a research intern. For his masters thesis, he’s working with researcher Jessica Heeman on a project that uses eye-tracking, titled “Improving paragraph reading: Tools to help return-sweep performance”.
We created a survey to evaluate different graphic variants of Devanagari characters, interviewing hundreds of people gathering data and recommendations not only on the recognisability of each form of the Devanagari characters, but also on the preferences of readers and users.
