In Summer 2005, Typotheque was commissioned by Khatt Foundation (Center for Arabic typography) to develop a matching Arabic font for Fedra family. Although nearly all publishing in the region is bilingual, mixing Arabic with Latin, there are few dual-script font families. We have approached this project as a research into the possibilities of the Arabic script, finding solutions in which Latin and Arabic can be mixed. We paid particular attention into a possibility of creating Arabic type which is not strictly calligraphic, but formalizes fast handwriting. The project was first time presented in spring 2006, in Dubai, during the Kitabat conference. We expect to publish first results and results of the research in late 2006. In collaboration with Tarek Atrissi.
