Comb is a practical monospaced typeface family with humanist characteristics, designed for the efficient creation of print and PDF form layouts. Its cursive italics are unusual for the genre of fixed-width fonts, and its collection of symbols and elements for building form layouts make designing of data entry forms easy and more effective.
Comb Forms provides graphic elements (boxes, lines, combs) specially designed for use in form layouts, including stylistic variations (straight/round edges, filled/empty boxes), all in three weights. All elements are assigned to keystrokes to make form creation as simple as typing. Comb Text is a complementary fixed-width font that is spaced to give optimal results with Comb Forms.
Designed by Frederik Berlaen. The first sketches of Comb date back to 2007, and the typeface was initially published by the now-defunct OurType in 2010. In 2019, Comb has been published on Typotheque.
Like all Typotheque fonts, Comb includes plenty of OpenType features. The text version of Comb include alternative forms narrow letters and substitite them by ligated forms. Comb includes also Stylistic Sets that gives choices over the choice of some characters. And Comb Forms include a stylistic set that control the rounding of the form elements. For more information please see the PDF instructions, or the Features section.
In addition to the form graphic elements, Comb includes also a comprehensive range of symbols and arrows that can be used in combination with text and boxes.
To help accessing the Form elements, Comb comes with nifty glyph selector. Choose the thickness of the boxes, and click on the graphic elements that you’d like to use. When you are finished, click to ‘Save’, and copy-paste the text to use in your favourite application.
