Terrassa is a modular display typeface that combines geometric precision with architectural expressiveness. Taking inspiration from the monolinear lettering found in technical drawings and architectural plans, it strikes a balance between rational construction and visual rhythm. Rather than reviving historical models, Terrassa establishes a new typographic system that structured and systematic, yet also playful and inviting. The Terrassa type family comprises three collections of fonts that explore spatial and structural typography. <a href="https://www.typotheque.com/fonts/terrassa">Terrassa</a> is the foundational style, offering clear, modular letterforms. <a href="https://www.typotheque.com/fonts/terrassa-display">Terrassa Display</a> adds layered outlines and architectural repetition, and <a href="https://www.typotheque.com/fonts/terrassa-gradient">Terrassa Gradient</a> introduces stepped weight transitions to create the effect of depth and motion. Together, they form a flexible system for expressive typographic design.

Terrassa type family

Terrassa Display and Gradient both contain five variable axes. We considered providing traditional static fonts as well, but the five axes would produce over 10,000 variations, which would overwhelm your font menu. Instead, we deliver Terrassa Display and Terrassa Gradient as variable fonts, allowing you to adjust the sliders rather than scrolling endlessly through the font menu.

Variability

Taking inspiration from traditional architectural drafting practices, Terrassa enables you to maintain consistent line weights across different type sizes. Its proportional system is designed so that each weight can visually compensate for scaling, ensuring that the thickness of the strokes remains consistent whether they are small or large. Most Typotheque fonts implement the Small Caps feature. In Adobe applications you can replace lower case letters with small caps using the keyboard shortcut (⌘ + ⇧ + H), or the OpenType menu.

Small caps

There are two methods of applying small capitals. The first one replaces only lower case letters with small caps. The second method, All Small Caps, also replaces capital letters with small caps. It also replaces regular quotation marks, exclamation points, question marks, slashes and usually also numerals with small caps variants.

When the ‘change to caps’ function is applied from within an application (not when text is typed in caps) appropriate case-sensitive forms are automatically applied. Regular brackets, parenthesis, dashes and hyphens are replaced with their capital forms.
