About Typotheque
Typotheque is a Netherlands-based type design company, recognised internationally as experts in multilingual typography and creating innovative font solutions for both global and local audiences.

Since its foundation in 1999, Typotheque’s work has been recognised with most prestigious industry awards, including Red Dot, D&AD, TDC, European Design Awards, and Dezeen Awards, but the true measure of our success lies in the impact of our work. Typotheque fonts are seen and used by millions of people daily—whether in airports, car interfaces, hospitals, TV broadcasting, newspapers, or global brands—enhancing usability in critical contexts.
Our dedication to accessibility and inclusivity is supported by rigorous research, with findings published in leading scientific journals. By integrating the latest insights from cognitive science and psychology, we design fonts that optimise reading performance for diverse audiences, including those with visual impairments. Typotheque also collaborates with marginalised communities worldwide to address digitally disadvantaged languages, and contributes to Unicode standards to ensure their accurate representation.
In 2009 Typotheque introduced pioneering concepts in webfonts, being the first type foundry to licence its type library for use on the web. For his transformative contributions to global typography, Typotheque’s founder, Peter Biľak, was honoured as a Game Changer by Metropolis, a leading US design magazine. Reflecting the impact of our multidisciplinary approach, Typotheque’s work was showcased in a landmark exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag—the first typography-focused exhibition in the museum’s rich history.
By combining deep cultural insights, research-driven design with innovative use of technology, Typotheque empowers worldwide brands and organisations to communicate with clarity and authenticity across diverse languages and scripts.
