Kanji

Kanji are logographic Chinese characters that are used in the Japanese writing system. They are used alongside the Japanese syllabic scripts hiragana and katakana. Because of the character simplifications of Kanji in Japan as well as in China in the mid 20th century, the Chinese characters used in Japan today are distinct from those used in China.
