Fedra Mono was developed for an annual report that required a fixed-width counterpart to <a href="https://www.typotheque.com/fonts/fedra_sans/">Fedra Sans</a>. All the characters share the same widths, which makes it suitable for tabular setting where the information benefits from the vertical alignment of characters. A typical example would be spreadsheets or computer code. It is a 10-pitch face, which means ten characters equals one inch (2.54 cm) when set at 10pt. All the characters, regardless of weight, have the same width, which is 60% of the em square. However, despite the fixed widths, Fedra Mono still retains an even texture in typographic colour, and lucid on screen. The various potentially similar characters are clearly distinguishable, notably I, l and 1, and O and 0, as are brackets, braces and parentheses.

Design Concept

Fedra Mono includes a collection of mathematic and computer symbols, such as shortcut keys and border glyphs, and most digraphs present in European languages. Digraphs are combinations of two letters that represent a single speech sound (phoneme). Rather than using two letters, we offer an OpenType feature to represent digraphs with one glyph.

In addition to the slashed zero, to avoid a possible confusion between a zero and a capital O, a zero with a dot is available in most Typotheque fonts. It is activated by the Stylistic Set.

Dotted zero

Replaces all styles of figures (old style, tabular, lining) and letters with their inferior alternates, used primarily for mathematical or chemical notation. Inferior characters are more legible than mathematically scaled characters, have a similar stroke weight, are spaced more generously, and better complement the rest of the text

Georgian alphabet is unicameral, and to convert the lower case letters (Mkhedruli) the capital letters (Mtavruli), you can apply the Case feature.

Fedra Mono includes simplified versions of the letters Დ, Ლ, Რ, Დ, Ლ, Რ which are typically rather wide. The simplified version is more suited or monospaced design, and can be activated by this Stylistic Set.
