Sans
The term derives from the French word sans, meaning ‘without’. The earliest sans-serif letters date from 1809 and were found on English coins. The early 20th century saw growing interest in serifless forms, as an expression of new technological developments of the era. The sans-serif typefaces can be further divided into: Grotesque, Geometric sans, Humanist sans, Rounded sans.
