Egyptian Fonts
Originally designed for strong visual impact, these slab serif typefaces (also called Egyptiennes), were later adopted for small text use too. One of the best known early Egyptian typefaces is Clarendon (Fann Street Foundry, 1845). Examples of Egyptian slab serif fonts from the Typotheque collection:
